Feeling the Love for Crochet Toys!

There are some really talented crochet artists out there.  I've been trawling the internet and these are some of my favourites...

Meet Moose!

My little brother's - he's going to be 27! - birthday is coming up this month! So what do I get a 27 year old guy currently living in New Zealand? Ever since he was little, he has liked moose! His fondness for moose stems from a soft toy he was given for christmas aged about one year old which
has turned into a life-long love affair with the animal!
The pattern is from AuroraGurumi on Etsy! Her patterns are really easy to follow and I am really pleased with the end result!

He is made with 100% cotton yarn by Rico Creativ...a lovely yarn to work with which gives a great finish!
I bought some luggage labels from a local store and stamped on them with my letter stamping set 'Please look after this moose xx'!

I finished it off by crocheting a little camera for moose to carry with him on his trip to New Zealand!!...my brother has just bought a new camera too!!

I made an Owl for you!!!

My three year-old niece loved a softie owl in a shop a few weeks ago!...it was just a touch too expensive for an everyday treat though so I promised here I would try and make her one!!!
This is my version of it...

Made from bits of cheap fleece I bought in a local general store!
I find the colours a bit garish but they are similar to the one she loved so much in the shop!!!!
She did point out though that it only had two flowers on it and not three like the one in shop and suggested I take it back to remedy it!!!!

Red and white spotty apron!

I made a baking apron for my niece who will be three on the first of September!
We went to a nearby fabric shop for her to choose some fabric for it - no surprises it was red - her favourite colour - with white spots!  I made a mock pattern out of a piece of newspaper before setting to and making it!!  I added a couple of matching red with white spots buttons to give a bit more interest!!  She loves it!!!
Here it is modelled by one of her favourite softies!!

Luvly Peppa Pig Bag for my Niece!

This is my second project!...a Peppa Pig bag...again for my luvly niece who loves Peppa and the ducks that appear almost invariably in every story...or so her Daddy tells me!!
I have never made a bag before so found some useful free tutorials:

Front of the bag!

The buttons just add the finishing touches to it!!

A pink lining with white spots adds that little of interest to the inside of the bag!

Enjoy! x

Luvly Soft Book for my luvly little niece!

I have fancied trying applique for a while but before getting my sewing machine for Christmas :), had been put off by the thought of attempting to do it by hand! This is my first finished item I have made with my new machine...a soft book for my seventeen month old niece!

I originally thought of doing an alphabet book but thought that was perhaps too ambitious for a first project!!!  Inspired by lovely books by:
I settled with spelling out her name!! I have tried to make it as interactive and interesting as possible to hold her attention...using buttons, tactile fabric etc

Above...Front page...A picture of my niece and her name! Buttons for the eyes and buttons of her dress and a ribbon in her hair!

First two pages...M is for monkey!! The monkey is made out of fur; bananas are attached to a piece of ribbon so they can be used to 'feed' the monkey!! When my niece saw the monkey she said "Ooo, ooo" (her noise for what a monkey says!) - it was reassuring she recognised my effort of a monkey!!!

A is for Apple!!...I made one side of the apple into a flap which could be turned to reveal the core and pips!!

C is for Cow!!...there is a bell on the end of the tail and a flower behind it's ear!

E is for elephant!!...Mummy and baby elephant!...Mummy elephant has a bird on her back! I toyed with the idea of only having one elephant and making it with a swinging tail but thought Mummy and baby were cuter!

Y is for yummy!!...the only other thing I could think of for Y was yacht and I thought even if at seventeen months old if my niece knew what one was she wouldn't be interested in one, so I came up with yummy as its what her Mummy and Daddy say to her at the beginning of every meal in the hope of building her enthsiasm for the forthcoming meal!!!! The cupcake has buttons on it!

Back cover...a message embroidered in satin stitch for my niece! I wish I had used a different background as I think it looks a little busy but I liked the "Sprinkled with love" message on it! Have added buttons and a bow for added interest!

Hope you enjoy my first post!!
